Kadampuzha Devi Temple
A temple famous for not having an idol for worship, the Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple is one of the major pilgrim centres in Malappuram district. The temple is located at a distance of around 12kms from Kuttipuram. Though the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kiratha Parvathy (Hindu Goddess in the form of a huntress) there are no idols and the daily ceremonies, rituals and prayers are performed into a hole.Â
It is believed that Goddess Kiratha Parvathy disappeared at the hole after having appeared before Adi Sankaracharya, the Indian philosopher and theologian of the 8th-century. It is also believed that the hole was made by the arrow of the Hindu God, Lord Shiva himself.Â
Two of the most important offerings at the temple include the Poomoodal (offering of Thecchi flowers) and Mutturakkal (breaking coconuts). It is for these rituals that devotees flock to the temple throughout the year.
More than anything the beauty of this divine destination lies in how it worships the presence of the Goddess. For this very reason, you can feel the very air pulsate with life and devotion the minute you step into the premises of the temple.
